Labor Day Weekend

This year for Labor Day my side of the family decided to get together and go on a hike to Charlie's Monument. This actually broke Labor Day protocol by not working on some project on the ranch! Charlie's Monument is a pile of rocks on top of a hill on top of Fairview canyon. You can see one mountain range to the next, even the end of the Wasatch range, I think. Anyway, you can see a lot up there. There's a story about a sheepherder named Charlie who placed a rock atop another rock every time he crossed over the hill with the sheep, or something to that effect. So in the end, there's this big pile of rocks that we hiked to and captured the moment via camera. My dad and mom rode up in the mule to make it easier because there are some rather steep sections in the trail. All of us had a great time and the cousins especially loved being together. We did miss David, Emily and their family though.

Here we are being blown by the wind in front of the monument

This is one of those steep sections I mentioned. I was riding with them but got out right before the real fun began.

In this last picture, all of the tires on the left rear were in the air and so was the right front tire. My dad was calm, cool, collected and chuckling to himself from the looks of this picture. Mom on the other hand was not so calm or collected. I think my dad genuinely enjoyed this moment. Just a little bit! My heart dropped to my stomach just watching them drive down, so I can only guess as to what my mom was experiencing!
